A page of wonderful folk music, originally started to fill the 3 months of summer break.

Find a little more out about me, Matthew Ball.

This is the follow up to my previous post on this fantastic group, and this time I will highlight their latest album, Winter Creatures. It is equal to if not better than their Promenade album, and I encourage you to enjoy it as much as is humanly possible.

If you only listen to one song, listen to ‘Father’s Clothes’ (8 on the album). It is such a good track, with a great build up and ending, and some Kate Bush style singing thrown in for good measure. The other ones I like are ‘Winter Creatures’, the lead on this post, and ‘Apple Tree’ (2).

Buy this, place it onto a portable media player of some description, and go for a walk to somewhere with lots of greenery. Repeat till satisfied with life.

Grand Hallway are such a good group, I’m actually disappointed it took me so long to find out about them. This entire album is great, from the first song all the way through to the last. To single out any one song to the detriment of the others should be a crime.

I would describe them as orchestral folk, with their songs being made up of great swathes of instruments playing simultaneously. Each one builds up till the crescendo towards the end. Please listen to the album in its entirety, give yourself 46 minutes to load the site (or spotify) and just listen.

I will be doing another post on this group shortly on their other and latest album. This band literally produces greatness.
